10 Foods That Help You Lose Weight
A big part of losing weight is about eating the right foods in the right quantities (the other big parts being exercise and the whole psychology/mindset of losing weight). I have put together a list of foods (and a drink) that have been recommended by both research studies and diet experts.
Many of the foods listed below are there because they are good at keeping you feeling full for longer and reducing feelings of hunger. Trying to lose weight when you are constantly hungry is a losing battle, so it is always good to have foods which you can fill up on and which keep you full for longer.
1. Water – Yes, I know it is not a food, but drinking the right amount of water is vital for losing weight. If your body becomes dehydrated the brain can often misinterpret the signals and make you feel hungry, when all you really need is a glass or two of water. It has also been recommended to drink water before a meal rather than during or after, as this
2 Nuts. – Non roasted/non salted nuts, especially almonds, are a good food to eat as a snack between meals. They are high in nutrients and protein. Although they should still be eaten in moderation
3 Eggs. – Eggs can be a good part of a healthy diet. Even though they are regarded as high in cholesterol, eaten in moderation, they can be a good part of your diet. They are high in Protein and have around 72 calories and can provide a filling breakfast.
4 Green Beans – I’m sure you know that most vegetables are really good for you, but these are good for making you feel full for longer
5 Soup. – Research has shown that eating soup keeps us feeling full for longer. This is because soup actually stays in our stomach longer than if
6 oats. – As well as being a whole grain food, oats are well known for releasing sugar into the body slowly. Because of this you would not get the highs and lows of blood sugar which can occur when eating other starchy, carbohydrate rich foods.
7 Turkey. – turkey breast meat has about half the calories and one ninth of the fat gram for gram than chicken breast meat. However chicken meat does have more protein.
8 Grapefruit. – Research has shown that the adding grapefruit to your diet can help you lose weight researchers speculate that grapefruit has chemical properties that reduce insulin levels and promote weight loss.
9 Salmon. – Oily fish like Salmon and Mackerel are one of the best sources of “good” fats: Omega 3 fatty acids. These help regulate insulin They are also a good source of protein
10 Dark Chocolate. – Can be one of the better ways to quell a craving for sweet foods, if eaten in moderation. In fact it is not as easy to eat large amounts of dark chocolate because it is so rich. It contains less calories and less fat than milk chocolate and is also full of beneficial antioxidants.
These are just some of the foods, based on my own research into the area, which may benefit you in your efforts to lose weight. If you know of any other good ones please leave a comment.
*NOTE: Before making any significant dietary changes, always consult your doctor or a qualified nutritionist.
